Top 5 Most Reliable Car Brands

What makes a car brand reliable? Consumer Reports, a leading car reliability expert, compiled data from thousands of drivers of different vehicle makes and models. They asked drivers questions about maintenance issues, drivability, and problems with certain vehicle makes and models to rate their overall reliability scores out of 100.

Based on these findings, here are the top five most reliable car brands:

  • Lexus
  • Toyota
  • MAZDA
  • Acura
  • Honda

Most Reliable Used Car Types

The same survey used to rate reliable used car brands was also used to rate reliable used car types. Based on driver reviews, here’s what Consumer Reports found to be the most reliable used car types:

Best Used SUVs

  • 2010 Honda CR-V
  • 2012 Toyota RAV4
  • 2010 Subaru Forester

Best Used Sedans

Best Used Trucks

  • 2013 RAM 1500
  • 2010 GMC Sierra 1500
  • 2016 Chevy Silverado 1500

If you’re shopping for a used car in the area and don’t see a vehicle from any of these brands on any lot, don’t worry! There are still several factors to consider when shopping for a used car.

Things To Consider When Shopping For A Used Car

When trying to determine what the best used SUV, sedan, or truck is, it’s sometimes best to look beyond the brand name you see on the car. Take these factors into consideration when choosing your next used vehicle:

  • Mileage Vs. Age: If a vehicle has high mileage, consider its age. For reference, most drivers put about 12,000 miles on their vehicles every year. So, 100,000 miles is high if a vehicle is only five years old. However, 100,000 is pretty reasonable for a vehicle that’s 10+ years old.
  • Maintenance History: A vehicle with a well-documented history of proper servicing and maintenance is more likely to have fewer mechanical issues in the future.

There are other things to consider as you’re shopping for a used vehicle, but one thing is for sure: You can trust the quality and condition of the used vehicles at our dealership!
