2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer with Apple CarPlay

That’s right. General Motors just announced that they’ll be cutting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility from their electric vehicle lineup, starting with the 2024 Chevy Blazer EV. So, why would a manufacturer do away with your ability to connect your smartphone to your infotainment system? That’s because GM is introducing a new Google-powered infotainment experience that will allow you to access Google Maps, Google Assistant, Spotify, and much more, via your touchscreen. Learn more about this switch with Five Star Automotive Group. Then, if you have questions, don’t hesitate to contact a Five Star Automotive Group dealership near you!

Why is GM Making the Switch to Google Infotainment?

GM models with combustion engines will still feature Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. However, the 2024 Chevy Blazer EV is going to usher in an era in which the upcoming generation of Chevy and GMC EVs will replace smartphone-based infotainment with a Google-centric system. On the surface, this could look like an alienating move. However, GM promises that this new approach to infotainment will provide far more benefits in a more streamlined UX. After all, both Tesla and Rivian offer unique infotainment systems, shirking compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Expected Features of the Google Infotainment System

The new Google Infotainment system will give you all the capabilities of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, without compatibility restrictions. Here are just a few of the features we expect on the new system:

  • Google Maps and Google Assistant at No Cost for 8 years
  • Real-time Navigation and Voice Commands
  • Google Play Store Access
  • Ability to Review texts and Voicemail from Smartphones via Bluetooth
  • Battery Range Optimization and Performance Monitoring Features
  • And much more!
