How to Prep a Car For Winter

To learn how to prep a car for winter is easy, it just takes some time to ensure your car is ready to go before the cold weather hits. Here are a few winter car care tips and issues to be aware of prior to the season:

  • Heating System: During the winter months, your heating system is crucial. Due to increased usage in cold temps, this is the number one repair during the winter season. You’ll want to have it inspected before the temps drop. If the heater becomes clogged with sludge or debris, this can lead to your engine overheating and causing your heat system to fail.
  • Windshield Wipers & Washers: A winter car prep tip that often gets overlooked is your windshield wiper motor and wash tank. We recommend avoiding adding any water to your wiper fluid, as this is a common practice amongst drivers in warm weather.

Winter Car Care Tips: Prepare for Snow Damage

Snow and salt damage are two elements of the winter weather that can cause damage to your vehicle, but here are a few steps in how to prep a car for winter snow:

  • If possible, park your vehicle indoors or use an overhead cover to prevent snow from building on your vehicle.
  • Visit our parts store for a windshield cover to prevent any damage to your windshield from ice and snow.
  • Never use water on your vehicle to remove snow or ice, warm your vehicle up instead.
  • Only use your ice scraper on your windows, never use a shovel or other metal equipment.
  • Never rub salt on your vehicle, it can leave scratches and corrode the metal on your vehicle.
